Crew activities on a cruise ship
Crew activities on a cruise ship can be exciting. The cruise ship will be your home for the duration of your contract. Usually after a hard day’s work, you want to relax and have some down time.
So, there are several organised recreational and social activities for you to participate in throughout your contract. Some crew look forward to these activities, but some prefer to sleep, go to the gym or just hang out with close friends. Additionally, there are crew facilities available for you to access at your leisure, like the crew bar, crew gym or crew lounge/games area. But if you are very interested in social activities, then you might want to share your ideas for activities to support the Crew Welfare or Crew Activities Coordinator.
Some activities on board (depending on the ship) include, but are not limited to:
- Movies
- Parties
- Raffles
- Bingo
- Tournaments – Ping Pong/Table Tennis, Basketball, Football, Pool, Darts, Foosball
- Board games
- Karaoke
- Acoustic sessions
- Barbecue
- Shore excursions for crew
- Shore excursions for guests – where crew can sign up to be escorts (free of charge). Technically, you are “still on”, in terms of being professional because you will be in the presence of the guests, and possibly you could be assigned to assist with coordination of the tour. But, this is usually a very simple task, like collecting their tickets while they entire the tour bus.
Crew activities on a cruise ship are arranged for the enjoyment of all crew. You either choose to participate or you do not. No pressure. And, you always have the option of course, of going ashore and exploring.
If you work on a cruise ship, what other crew activities have you seen on board?
